With an objective to honor the best on screen, Screen Actors Guild Awards entered into their 17th year in 2011. The 17th Annual SAG awards were held at the Shrine Exposition Center on Sunday, the 30th January 2011.

The King’s Speech emerged as the Best Film of the year leaving behind other healthy competitors such as Black Swan and The Social Network. Colin Firth, the lead actor for The King’s Speech was named the Best Actor and Natalie Portman received the Best Actress award for Black Swan. Both their

performances were judged to be outstanding, classic and awardable by the juries. Christian Bale was adjudged as the Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the movie, The Fighter and Melissa Leo received the same award in the female category.

Coming to the Television platform, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and ‘Modern Family’ took home the awards for the Best Drama Series and Best comedy Series respectively. Steve Buscemi won the SAG award for an Outstanding Performance by a male actor in a drama series and the same was won by Glenn Close in the female category. Outstanding performances in a comedy series awards were bestowed upon Alec Baldwin in the men’s category for 30 Rock and Edie Falco in the female section for Nurse Jackie.

The SAG awards was another big event this year which was ruled over by The King’s Speech in the movies area and the results for Television were mixed with no clear victor who could clean sweep the award ceremony.
