November 21, 2010 witnessed the night of 38th American Music Awards held at the Nokia Theater in LA, California. The awards have always been given every year with an objective to recognize the most popular music artists and albums for that particular year and this year wasn’t an exception.
As was expected by people world over, Justin Bieber, the teenage sensation of this year, scored an amazing four-on-four. Bieber was nominated for 4 categories; artist of the year, favorite pop/rock male artist, T-Mobile breakthrough artist and favorite pop/rock album. Justin bagged all these 4 awards at the American Music Awards 2010 which came as no surprise for anyone. Lady Gaga took up the stage for collecting her Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. The Black Eyed Peas won the title for the Favorite pop/Rock/Band/Duo/Group at the American Music Awards.
In the male section of the Favorite Country Artist, Brad paisley won the laurels while Taylor Swift bagged the award in the female category. The Favorite Country Band of the year was Lady Antebellum and Play On by Carrie Underwood was the Favorite Country Album for 2010. Eminem scored 2 awards out of his 5 nominations for himself; the Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album awards.
On similar lines, Usher was nominated for 3 categories, out of which, he emerged as the winner in 2. He was recognized as the Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist. In the female section of the same category, it was Rihanna who won. Usher also won the award for Favorite R&B Album for his album, Raymond v. Raymond. Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers was adjudged as the best soundtrack of the year. Shakira was crowned as the Favorite Latin Artist, Michael Buble as the Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, MercyMe as the Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist and Muse as the Favorite Alternative Artist.
The award ceremony went extremely smooth and was enjoyable to watch. In spite of that, year 2010 proved to be the year of lowest ever ratings for the American Music Awards. Around 11.6 million viewers watched the award show which gave it a preliminary rating of 4.3. Perhaps, a tint of entertainment was missing in the 38th American Music Awards!
