The latest to join the ranks of PR disasters is Charlie Sheen who has been condemned by many for his rash behavior, lack of control on his tongue, reckless partying with porn stars and going at drugs as a kid goes at candy. Reminds you of his Hot Shots (1991) character, doesn’t it?
Charlie Sheen has shown a knack for getting into trouble, jail and damaging hotel rooms and is far from caring, let alone showing some remorse for his actions. He even was unable to control his angry outbursts at Chuck Lorre, creator of CBS’s hit comedy ‘Two and a Half Men’; whose production has been shut down ever since. Far from showing remorse or apologizing, Sheen, who is the highest paid TV actor, is demanding a 50% hike in his pay; asking for a million more (per episode) than his present $2 million an episode.
The dilemma that the studio faces is of whether to get Sheen back or not. There are repercussions of both, getting him and not getting him. Both, Two and a Half Men and Charlie Sheen’s popularity has grown over the period of this debacle ad hence, it can be in the studio’s best interest to get him back and continue with the remainder of the season. On the other hand, the studio might have to think if they are willing to risk handling his reckless persona just to continue the show.
So, will the show go on? The latest news on the fiasco was that Charlie Sheen was in talks with the studio and would most probably continue with the remainder of the season. Sheen has revealed that he will not be receiving any residual money from the show’s syndication. However, money or no money, Charlie Sheen’s PR disaster has probably cost his image a lot.
