The tapes (known as Mel Gibson tapes) have everything from the actor’s racist rants to his threats to kill her and burn down the house to his demand for sex. This all was pulled to the limelight when Oksana Grigorieva (who is the mother of Gibson’s love-child) complained to the police about domestic violence and the L.A. County Sherriff’s Department started investigating the charges. Therein surfaced not one, not two but five tapes of Mel Gibson’s rants and slurs. Oksana told the police that she had recorded the calls because she was scared for her life as Gibson had threatened to kill her.
Popularly known as the ‘Mel Gibson rant’, this is the breakup of the five ‘Mel Gibson tapes’.
Tape 1
Tape 1 was most probably the most infamous one since it was in this recording that Gibson told Grigorieva that she is an embarrassment to him, commented on her bosoms’ (calling them fake) and also claimed that she dressed proactively on purpose and if she’d be raped by a ‘pack’ of African-Americans (here he used the ‘N’ word), she’d be the one responsible for it. Following the leak of the first tape, the Braveheart actor was condemned by Rev. Jesse Jackson, anti-domestic violence groups and the NAACP.
Tape 2
The second tape has him not only admit that he hit Oksana but also claiming that she deserved it. Also he appears so worked up in the tape that at times he can’t do anything but huff so badly as if he’ll hyperventilate any moment. Gibson also claims in the same tape that Oksana used him.
Tape 3
Tape 3 has Gibson flying into profanity laden banter one more time. In this one, he goes to the lengths of calling Oksana a prostitute that he owns and also calls he mentally deprived. In a second racial slur, refers to a Mexican worker with some offensive slang. It is also in this tape that despite him being known to have tens of millions in fortune, he claims to be having financial difficulties.
Tape 4
In a weird, twisted combination of misogynistic violence and rage, Mel Gibson, in the fourth tape threatens to burn down the house Oksana lives and makes a construed demand for oral sex citing a prior incidence where Oksana went to sleep before the two made love. The actor very much seems to have lost his marbles in this particular tape as he spews viler, hateful rhetoric against Grigorieva. Contrarily, although he seems like a man in deep need of a therapist, Gibson hints at seeing a therapist in the same tape.
Tape 5
Gibson’s profanity takes a new high in this tape when he, as usual continues his ‘F-Bomb’ tirade and becomes unhinged. In the same video he claims to be broke and that he has to sell his art collection and his box at the Lakers game. This came as a shocker to many even amidst the verbal barrage.
All the tapes have incessant F-bombs and nothing other than misogynistic emotional slur and abuse. Oksana officially filed a complaint on July 5, 2010 and the police started an investigation about the January 5 attack. The repercussions of the leak were immediately felt by Gibson as his talent agency dumped him in light of the allegations. Also, owing to this fiasco, Gibson now finds it difficult to get work. He couldn’t even keep his cameo in The Hangover 2. He sure could have used a good PR agency.
