Gnomeo and Juliet is an animated family movie inspired from the Shakespeare's classic play “Romeo and Juliet” which tells the love story of two garden gnomes. The movie is written and directed by Kelly Asbury. Initially it was Ewan McGregor and Kate Winslet who were going to be the vioces of the two lead characters of the movie, Gnomeo and Juliet. But later James McAvoy and Emily Blunt were cast for the vioces of Gnomeo and Juliet respectively.

The movie also features voices of Ashley Jensen as Nanette, Maggie Smith as Lady Blueberr, Michael Caine as Lord Redbrick, Ozzy Osbourne as Fawn, Jason Statham as Tybalt and Patrick Stewart as William Shakespeare.

The movie was released on 11th Februrary 2011. Gnomeo belongs to the blue garden gnomes family and Juliet is from the red garden gnomes family. The movie tells the story of how these two garden gnomes fall in love despite the heated rivalry that exists between their families and how they overcome the obstacles in their path to find a happy ending. Unlike the sad and tragic ending of the play Romeo and Juliet, this movie ends happily with the marriage of the main characters. The movie enjoyed box office success and the colorful animated characters of garden gnomes were enjoyed by kids of all age groups. The music of the movie was released on February 11, 2011 and features some very famous singers such as Elton John, Kiki Dee and Nelly Furtado.

Walt Disney Studios will release Gnomeo and Juliet for Blu-ray and DVD on 24th May 2011. Gnomeo and Juliet Blu-ray and DVD will include few deleted and alternate scenes from the movie, songs by Elton John and the “Crocodile Rock” music video which features Elton John and Nelly Furtado.
