Described by many as the female version of ‘The Hangover’, director Paul Feig’s new movie 'Bridesmaids' released on May 13, 2011. Distributed by Universal Studios and produced by Judd Apatow, Clayton Townsend and Barry Mendel, the movie in which ladies take over the comedy genre features Kristen Wiig as Annie. Wiig is also the co-writer of the film along with Annie Mumolo. The movie also features a group of colorful and beautiful bridesmaids which includes Ellie Kemper, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Melissa McCarthy.

The movie is about Annie who is asked to be the maid of honor for her best friend Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) wedding. Lillian has also selected her group of bridesmaids which includes her fiancée’s boss’ wife, who wants to replace Annie as Lillian’s best friend. Meanwhile, Annie is also struggling with her personal life (losing her business, apartment and boyfriend) and in addition to all this; she has to fulfill all the duties of the maid of honor.

Annie and the fellow bridesmaids of the movie make the wedding a hilarious journey with Annie and Helen fighting for bride’s attention and controlling the wedding events. Other bridesmaids include Melissa McCarthy who plays Megan, an outspoken and aggressive sister of the groom, Wendi McClendon-Covey who plays Rita, a married woman with three kids who hates her life and her marriage.

Bridesmaids, a Universal Pictures release received highly positive reviews from critics, with 91% of critics liking the movie and an average rating of 7.5/10 based on Rotten Tomatoes rating. The movie was expected to do well and opened strongly by making $24.5 million in its debut weekend and finished second behind Marvel’s epic movie adventure movie Thor.
