Something Borrowed is a romantic comedy, based on the novel by National best-selling author, Emily Giffin and is directed by Luke Greenfield. The movie released on May 6th, 2011. Hilary Swank is one of the producers of the film. She and her producing partner Molly Smith bought the rights of the Giffin’s novel’s Something Borrowed and Something Blue.Swank initially had considered herself for the lead role but after reading the screenplay, she thought someone else would be better.

'Something Borrowed' is a story of a single New York City lawyer Rachel White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and her best friend Darcy Rhone (Kate Hudson) who is getting married to Dex Thaler (Colin Egglesfield). Rachel is a 30 year old single woman and has a crush on Dex since they were together in law school. Darcy throws an extravagant surprise birthday party for Rachel where she announces her engagement to Dex. On her birthday party, she confesses her crush to Dex and end up spending the night together. The love triangle tension between the leads continues leading to unexpected complications and romantic revelations with Rachel facing a dilemma of choosing her best friend or the love of her life. In the movie, John Krasinski plays the role of Ethan, Rachel's best friend and confidant, while Steve Howey plays the role of Dex’s best friend, Marcus.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie did not score with the critics with 15% of the critics giving a positive review of the film and an average review of four out of ten. It came at fourth place in its debut week and earned under $14 million in its opening weekend. The producers have acquired the rights of the sequel, Something Blue and are hopeful that the movie sequel would be made in the future.
