The movie faced some development problems for several years. Earlier Matthew Vaughn was going to direct the movie and it was scheduled to release in 2010 but later Shakespearean background director, Kenneth Branagh replaced Vaughn and the film’s release was postponed to 2011. Thor was released in Australia on April 21, 2011 with the world premiere taking place at the Event Cinemas, Sydney.
The movie tells the story of the Thor, a powerful warrior from the land of Asgard who restarts an ancient war as a result of his reckless actions. His father Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins) strips his powers and forces him to go and live amongst humans on Earth. Here, he falls in love with a beautiful scientist named Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). On Earth, he learns to control his arrogance and his temper. The villain from his world (his brother Loki played by Tom Hiddleston) sends dark forces to invade Earth and destroy Thor. That is the time Thor realizes what it takes to become a true hero.
Marvel’s newest superhero flick received positive critical response and financial success, making $66 million in its opening weekend. The Marvel Studio release also remained at the top slot in its second week. The movie received an average rating of 6.7/10 and 78% approval rating on the review-aggregator on Rotten tomatoes.
