Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway is taking up the role of Emma in the upcoming movie ‘One Day’ based on the best-selling novel by David Nicholls (who also wrote the screenplay) by the same name. The movie is directed by Lone Scherfig and also stars Jim Sturgess as Dexter. Focus Features will be releasing this romantic drama movie on August 19, 2011.

One day shows the extraordinary relationship of a young couple, a working-class woman, Emma and a charming wealthy man, Dexter. They meet at their University of Edinburgh graduation on July 15th, 1988. After spending their graduation night together, Emma and Dexter reunite every year for the next two decades on the same date (their anniversary) to see where they are in their lives. Over the next twenty years, they face fights, laughter, tears, friendship, success, failure and along the journey of their lives, they realize that what they were searching for had been there all along.

The anticipation for this movie is building as Anne takes on a British accent for this movie which she has done earlier in two of her previous films including Alice in Wonderland. Book lovers complained that Anne was too beautiful to play the character of Emma saying that she is too glamorous and attractive to play an awkward, working-class Yorkshire girl. But the film-makers have said that the Emma in the movie will be little different from the book; she will be less shy.

The novel was a big hit making its way to the New York Times most notable books of 2010 and got the fans excited to see how the Oscar nominated (An Education) director recreates the magic of the novel on the big screen.
