The movie is set during the Second World War and tells the story of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) born in a poor family. He is inspired to join the army and fight the Nazis but is rejected as he is physically unfit. But he is given an opportunity to take part in a secret military operation – Project: Rebirth. He is transformed into a Super-Solider after being injected with an experimental super-serum and is given extensive physical training. As Captain America, he has to fight the evil Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Hitler's head of advanced weaponry. He is also the head of the terrorist organization, HYDRA and seeks to obtain a magical object 'the Tesseract' . Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) plays Captain America's love interest and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) plays his sidekick.
The movie's name was changed from The First Avenger: Captain America to The First Avenger in Ukraine, Russia and South Korea. The movie was originally scheduled to be released in 2008 but was put on hold due to Writer's Guild of America Strike. Chris Evans has previously played a role in the film adaptation of Marvel comics 'Fantastic Four' and its sequel. He is also set to play Captain America again in the movie 'The Avengers' that will be released in 2012.
